COVID -19 PANDEMIC TREATMENT

INCREASED IN RECOVERY OF           CARONA  WITH  REMDESIVIR

Gurdaspur : Amid rising cases of corona virus, a relief has come to light.  Gilead Sciences said on Friday that data from a late-stage study showed that antiviral remedivir had significantly proved clinical recovery and reduced the risk of death in patients with corona virus.  The company was told that the findings need to be confirmed in possible clinical trials.

Gilead said a late-stage study analyzed data from 312 patients receiving treatment and examined 818 patients separately with similar characteristics and severity of the disease.  The company said an analysis of its late-stage study found that 74.4% of patients treated with remedivisor recovered in 14 days, compared to the usual rate of 59.0%.

These preclinical findings help explain the clinical effect the drug has had in treating COVID-19 patients. Remdesivir has been given to patients hospitalized with COVID-19 on a compassionate use basis since late January and through clinical trials since February.

According to the new results, 74% of patients treated with remdesivir had recovered by their 14th day of hospitalization, compared to 59% of those who did not get the drug. Nearly 8% of the patients on remdesivir had died by day 14, versus more than 12% of patients who did not receive it.

All of the results with remdesivir have been very encouraging, even more so than we would have hoped, but it is still investigational, so it was important to directly demonstrate its activity against SARS-CoV-2 in the lab and in an animal model of disease," said VUMC's Andrea Pruijssers, Ph.D.

In the analysis, the mortality rate of patients treated with Remdesivir was 14.6 per cent in 14 days, while the mortality rate of patients treated without Remdesivir was 12.5 per cent.  Shares of Gilead rose 2 per cent to 76.14 against the dollar during the Corona crisis.
